Dirty Secret

I did something this afternoon that is rather shameful. And yet I feel inclined to brag. Now y'all know I mix the higher end with the ..... should we say ..... lower end. I wear Lilly Pulitzer pants with a RL polo from TJ or Marsh with $4.99 shoes from Payless. I seriously LOVE Payless, friends! But that's old news. And not dirty enough for today's secret. Guess where I grocery shopped for the first time in my life today? Super Wal-Mart! There are two sort of near my but neither is close. Actually both are a fair hike. But oh so worth it, as I found out today. I have never before been because Wal-Mart is evil and I didn't think the prices could be worth the drive. And while I will forever hate what the company has done to small towns across America, their prices in the grocery store were A-Maz-Ing! I bought the most beautiful and huge strawberries for only $1.88 instead of $2.99 or $2.50 (when on sale) at my PC or HF. I noticed the biggest price reductions in the produce section, but almost everything I purchased was lower than my normal grocery store. From now on, I will unashamedly make the drive out to Super Wally World. I am just dumbfounded- I had no idea the prices were that much lower!!

I hate what Walmart has done to small businesses too, but I also do all my grocery shopping there. After shopping there once I just couldn't go back to the high-priced grocery stores. We save $50 to $100 a week!

You sound like me with Lilly pants, ralph shirt and Payless shoes. I just picked up two pairs. One to wear with lilly pants and one to wear with lilly skirt. Unfortunately, we don't have a Super Wal-mart near me. Just your run of the mill Wal-mart! But I'm sure they have great deals.

I know. As much as I hate Walmart, their prices really are unbeatable. I feel bad when I go there, yet my checking account is much happier than when I shop elsewhere.

I also try to avoid walmart for some things that I could buy from a local store, but I stock up on quick cakes mixes whenever I'm there- only 88 cents a box!

I don't like the Walmarts near us because they are not very clean. When we were at Disney in January, I went into a Super Walmart nearby...I LOVED it. It was clean, and everything was cheap, cheap, cheap!!!

I went to Walmart for the first time a few months back, and yes its cheap! My fiance likes to grocery shop there, but our's doesn't have produce! :(

Too funny, mix and matching high-end with steals! As long as it looks good, that's all that matters!!!!

You had seriously never shopped at Wal-Mart? They have everything and it is all cheaper.

As for Payless shoes...it doesn't matter where you buy things from or how cheap or expensive they are...as long as you wear them proud and you know how to wear them. There are many things in life that are more important than material items. I don't think it's an ultimate sin to wear cheap with expensive. Or for some that only have the option to wear cheap, it is all in their attitude. I do think it is a sin however to wear an everyday skirt that costs $350.00. I would have markers, crayons and inevitably something horrible like kiddie throw-up or poop. I know...TMI.

Post some pics of your outfits!!! Sport those cheap shoes!!! Yay for bargains!

Oh I've shopped at Walmart and even been to a Super. But since it is not very close, this was my first time grocery/big shopping at a Super Walmart. I don't think I've even seen a Super Target though.

I admit I've shopped there too and the deals are well worth it! Our closest Super Walmart is still 25 minutes away so I can't justify a weekly trip, but every once in a while it's great to stock up!

Wow! Those are great deals. I have been on a coupon craze the last few months, and as you may know, produce items don't generally have coupons. I might just have to find the super-wally world near me!

I had never shopped at Walmart until I got to college. I have saved so much money, and they have great yoga pants!

That Walmart is a double edged sword. They know most Americans won't put their money where their principles are. I know I'm guilty, but I've really done well with cutting back.

Oh, I so agree! I hate Wal-mart, but can't stay away, after all, it is cheaper and with things tight these days, one has to make sacrifices, family first! The name of the game is save, save, save!

A super Wal-Mart just opened about 10 min away, and my husband and I were JUST having your exact discussion over this dilema. We decided to try it next week in fact. Ill let you know what I think!

I hate to say it, but I do some grocery shopping at Walmart quite often. I hate that I'm supporting it, but like you said, the prices are hard to beat.

We have a new SuperWalMart very near our house and I do shop there quite often. However, sometimes I am honestly not in the mood to fight the crowds and so I go to Publix, but it is well worth it as the savings are great.

Yay for mixing and matching! Walmart does have cheap groceries, mine is a bit too far for me though. Maybe I'll venture over to it sometime!

Payless can have some pretty awesome deals :)

I totally love Payless (Emma does too), but I also love yard sales for shoes (is that even a dirtier secret than Payless?) =)

Thank you for all the sweet comments on A Place Called Simplicity. And as far as WalMart goes...yesterday Strawberries were $1.44 here in my neck of the woods. Sounds like if you are looking for the deal you need to drive to Colorado. xo

I buy about 1/2 my groceries at WalMart and it saves me about $30/month...and it's right accross the street from my regular market. Serious price difference.
