It's All Relative

So I have been meaning to tell y'all a fun story for a while now.  But when it got even more fascinating today, I knew it was time to share. Ready?

Updated: 2 Cousins, our Aunt, G and KK March 2013

A few years ago I started reading a fun blog by a Sweet Preppy Blogger (that is not her blog name but I don't know if she wants me to identify her or not).  Then we realized that we live in the same area.  Which was big news for me because I didn't think anyone up here was either preppy or into blogging.  By reading several of our blogs, Sweet Preppy Blogger learned about the Junior League for the first time.  And once I realized she lived in the area, I encouraged her to join our fair League!  (I was always excellent during sorority Recruitment- some things never change!)  I wasn't sure if she actually decided to join until she walked into her first meeting.  We've since discussed this funny moment but we immediately realized that we knew each other.  Even though we lived close, we didn't meet until that night at JL last fall.  But blog friends know each other.  It was a bit awkward but also an instant "aha!" moment.  And we laugh about it now.  We took our seats next to each other and immediately became fast friends.  She's a doll and just such a sweet person.  Over the year, she expressed interest in being on a particular committee the following year.  Knowing I was already crowned co-chair and looking for a strong buddy to do it with me, we got together and I gave her the details.  She agreed to co-chair the fundraiser with me!  From anonymous bloggers to co-chairs in less than a year.

It gets better...

Today, we met at our B HQ, Panera (A HQ being Starbucks of course), to come up with a game plan for our first committee meeting.  Of course, as girlfriends tend to do, we were catching up on life first.  And in that chatty time, I happened to mention my Aunt P.  She paused and said, "I have an Aunt P in your town too."  Really?  Is she married to B?  "Yes."  Last name Crocodile?  "Yes."  Children named Boy and Girl?  "Yes."  It turns out, we have the same aunt and uncle and cousins.  She is a blood relative of our Aunt P and I am a blood relative of our Uncle B.  So we are not related but we have the same family!  We figured out that I have been at some family events with her mother.  And I saw several of her aunts, including Aunt P, at the birthday party on Monday.

I mean, come on!  Two years ago we were anonymously reading our blogs.  Having no idea we lived close to each other.  A year ago we met for the first time.  Three months ago we became committee co-chairs.  And today we discovered we are relatives-ish.

It really is a small world, after all!

I love small world stories! We had a newspaper photog come out recently to our house in Podunkity, Texas to take some pics of our kids and found out that not only had we all gone to University of Georgia, but that my DH and I knew his cousin from ROTC. I always feel like there is some deeper message when that happens . . .
