New Year's Resolutions

I don't typically make resolutions as they are likely to get broken by day two and forgotten by day three.  I'm just not good at them.  But this year I am making not just one...but two!

I know.  Lofty goals.

Both are things that I started to improve upon last year and want to make a PSA that I will be again working towards these goals.

Ready for them?

Number one...to be on time.  ALL the time.

Man have I become amazing at being consistently late to social dates.  It's ridiculous and rude and super embarrassing.  And while it often involves things that are out of my control (delivery trucks blocking me in is a frequent occurrence), that's still not really an excuse.  Because hello...if it happens regularly, I should know better to build in that extra time.  I've been getting better, even early {gasp...what's that??} on occassion, but I want to be consistent.  My friends are super important to me and showing up late is unacceptable.

Number two...to be in photos and stop obsessing at how {fill in the blank...terrible, fat, un-cute, etc} I look.  I read this blog post about a year ago and it really stuck with me.  It has made me really think about how I perceive myself and how I avoid being photographed, but in the process, avoid making memories.  That doesn't mean I don't want to improve.  Oh I totally do.  But more than that, I want to get better at living in the moment and not missing out on making memories simply because of the self-deprecating dialog taking place in my noggin.

And to prove I am willing to go big or go home on this one....

Homemade Orange Household Cleaner

I have been making this recipe for a year and a half and just can't say enough about it.  I personally discovered it via a food swap but I've seen it on blogs and Pinterest countless times, too.  So simple, non-toxic, easy to do, and smells great.  Oh...and it works great!

Homemade Orange Household Cleaner

Ingredients:
* Citrus peels.  Any variety.  I've used oranges, clementines and grapefruit with equal success.
* Vinegar.  I use white, but any will do.
* Water.

Directions:
* In a jar, cover citrus peels with vinegar.  As I add more peels, I add more vinegar to ensure they are covered.
* Let peels steep for about a week or until they turn gross.  If I still have citrus in the house, I simply remove the old peels and add in the new peels.  Add more vinegar if needed too.  You are basically extracting the astringent from the peels in this process.  Vinegar is also a natural antibacterial.
* After you are done eating citrus and the vinegar as pulled out all it can from the peels and the peels are discarded, you are left with a concentrate.
* Add one part concentrate to one part water to a spray bottle.  And that's it, folks!  So simple!  I keep a bottle on my kitchen counter and use it daily!  A cleaner that is safe to use and you can pronounce all the ingredients.  Plus it's a great way to not let citrus peels go to waste.

While not completely homemade, here are my directions on how to make your own foaming soap, which is also super simple.  Have you ever tried making household cleaners?  Do you have any interest in more of these simple, DIY tips?

Best Easy Desert Recipe: Chocolate Dipped Oranges

Following up on my Christmas post yesterday, I want to share with y'all a real crowd pleaser of a recipe that I made four different times this past week.  People raved about these little chocolate oranges.  Which made me feel rather silly because they are ridiculously simple.  You need to pin this or bookmark it because I promise you will want to make these in the near future.  This is the perfect combination of sweet and tart and creamy and juicy and refreshing and decadent.  As My Martha would say...It's a good thing!

Salted Chocolate Dipped Oranges

Ingredients:
* Chocolate chips (I used semi-sweet)
* Clementines, peeled and segmented
* Salt (I used Kosher)

Directions:
* Melt chocolate.  I use a double boiler method because I have about a 70% failure rate when using the microwave.  But use whatever method you prefer to get it melted.
* Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
* Dip tip of Clementines into chocolate and place on parchment paper.  Do about four at a time and then sprinkle a few (and just a few) flakes of Kosher or sea salt on top of the chocolate.  Continue doing four or five oranges in chocolate and the adding salt before the chocolate hardens.
* Pop baking sheet in fridge when finished to harden up.
* Enjoy.  They will last as long as the oranges are good but I doubt they last more than a day because they are so good.

This afternoon you get a bonus orange recipe.  I'm sure you're just biting your nails with anticipation...

My Christmas Was Awesome Because I Shut Out The World

It seems like many of us took a week (or more) off from blogging to do all the real life, non-blogging things that happen over the holidays.  And for me, it was so completely awesome!  I hope it was for y'all, too!

I didn't just shut out the blog world though.  I shut out Twitter, most of Facebook, all things Junior League, non-essential work stuff, non-essential everything stuff and then some.  December was consumed with stress and frustration.  And it really ate into a good part of my Christmas spirit.  But on the 22nd I shut it down.  I just stopped allowing it to fog up my head.  I stopped responding and stopped thinking about it (for the most part) and let go of things that weren't going to be resolved.  I finally got my head and heart to just live in the moment for a few days.  I let myself close out the stress and chaos of life life and absorb time with friends and family.  I also let myself eat darn near everything, which is darn near close to requiring me to grease the darn door to get through it.  But whatever.  In a few days, it's a new year.  I will confront my issues then.

But for at least one more day, I am still living in the blissfully calm and lovely world of holidays and family time.  I think it was the best decision I made all year!

Similar styles

Two of my favorite gifts this year were these ah-maz-ing pajama pants that put all other pajama pants to shame.  Seriously the softest and coziest pants ever!  Picked out by my best boyfriend, 3 year old Isaiah!  He knows me so well!!  And these Sperry ballet flats that are as comfortable as they are cute.  They were a Merry Christmas to me, from me.  Y'all get yourselves a Christmas gift each year, too, right?

This weekend, District's baby, H, turned ONE!  I milestone for both for babies and parents!  And despite me having the wrong time and the getting into a minor fender bender (I was hit while parked by a little old man who should not be driving.  But he was going slow and I didn't see any damage so after 30 minutes of grocery store parking lot chaos, we exchanged "it's OK...no one was hurt" affirmations and personal information and I got my now super duper worst friend ever booty on the road.  Oddly...I was very "whatever" about the ordeal until 11 PM when I took Sadie outside before bed and we were both almost eaten alive by a Pit Bull.  I lost it after that- just too much for one girl in one day.), I was able to give Super Baby H his new cape.  He's super awesome on all accounts so this just seemed like a necessary wardrobe addition.

Another highlight was my family's Dirty Santa game this year (also known as Yankee Trade, Nasty Christmas, or White Elephant).  I often end up with the dud gift.  Last year was the worst, a self-help book by some golfer.  What the heck...worst gift idea!  This year though, I brought home a trio of 31 bags.  I'm not a huge 31 fan but the bags are cute and I can totally use them.  The insulated wine/beverage bag is actually really fun.  So yay for a year of a good Dirty Santa game gift!!

Does your family plan this or a similar game?  It seriously gets funnier every year.  Even when you take home the dud gift, it's still hilarious and such a great time with the family adults.  And how was your holiday in general?  Did you shut off the chaos to enjoy Christmas with your family and friends?  I hope so!

Deviled Egg Dip

I'm funny about eggs.  I love eggs in things, like custard.  And I like scrambled eggs and sometimes deviled eggs.  But I don't like normal egg dishes like sunny side up or egg salad.

But for the last week I have been craving deviled eggs.  However, I decided I wanted to make it into a dip.  I have an abundance of chips in the pantry and decided it would be a delightful lunch.

I have to tell you this is really delicious!  It tastes exactly like a deviled egg but you know...it's a dip.  Eat it on crackers, on sandwich bread, with veggies, or just from a spoon.  It's really really good!

Deviled Egg Dip

Ingredients:

  • Dozen hard boiled eggs, peeled
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • salt, pepper and paprika to taste

Directions:
  • Toss peeled eggs into a food processor.  Add in mayo, mustard.
  • Process until desired consistency.  I didn't want mine chunky at all.
  • Add spices.  Pulse to incorporate.
  • Add additional ingredients if necessary (you might want more mayo or mustard)
  • Serve with crackers and veggies.
  • Enjoy!

It's so easy!  A sure hit at any party...if you are willing to share.  Did I mention it's really good?  Because it is really good!

Mean Girls Mug

Via

Did y'all see this photo on Mermaid's blog?  It hit a nerve with her...and MCW...and with me, too.  In the last two days I've just had a flood of memories come back to me because of this mug photo.

I went to a very tiny grade school/junior high.  And then went to a huge high school.  At the time, it was not the feeder school from my junior high so there were only about seven of us who transitioned to this particular school.  However, I had an edge up on my 8th grade peers.  My best friend who lived across the street from my mother went to a different junior high school.  And that school was a feeder school for our high school.  Over years of friendship and birthday parties, that began in the fourth grade, I got to know many of the girls from that other school.  I had a really nice friend base my freshmen year of high school, without having to try very hard.  It was fantastic!  I loved life!  I mean, I was never popular by any stretch.  But I had friends to sit with at lunch and do things with on the weekends, and that was all I ever really cared about.

But shortly after our sophomore year of high school started, my best friend moved back to Canada with her family.  What's funny is I have zero memory of saying goodbye or any sort of emotion around her leaving.  I'm sure I was sad but I just don't remember any of the details.  I do, however, vividly remember is what happened after she left.

Every day at lunch, groups tended to sit in the same areas.  And my group was no different.  You saved seats and it never really changed much from day to day.  But when best friend, Canada, moved, it all changed.

Suddenly when I would go into the lunch room, I wouldn't have a seat saved for me.  For over a year, one had always been there for both best friend Canada and me.  And now...nothing.  I started carrying all of my books and my lunch with me so that I didn't have to waste time going back to my locker before lunch to ensure I would have a seat.  But when I would get there in time to get a (what I later realized was someone else's) seat, no one would talk to me.  I could be in the middle of two girls talking and it was like I was invisible.  I could jump in the conversation and I got dirty looks and short answers.  In the halls when we passed each other when we would normally say hello and wave and smile, I got ignored.  And the friend dates on the weekends and to football games ceased to exist.

I suddenly had not a single friend to sit with at lunch.  Not.  One.

I took to going into the library during lunch, where you couldn't eat.  But at least I could sit down and not get stared at for being by myself.  It was wretched.  I cried a lot that year.

But looking back, I think this next part of the story is actually the saddest.

If you had asked me at that time, when I was sitting in that library all alone, starving and possessing a lunch but not able to eat it, if those were mean girls, I would have said no.  I didn't think they were mean; I thought I just wasn't good enough.  I internalized the entire ordeal.  I was the problem...it could never be them...only me.

I was probably in my late 20's or early 30's when I realized that those girls were my mean girls.  It seriously took me that long to put all of that together.

I also eventually made new friends.  I worked up every last ounce of nerve that my introverted self could muster and asked to sit with a friend from elementary school one day.  It had been years since we had been friends at that point, but I sat with her.  And from there, I made new friends.  It wasn't easy and it wasn't instant, but I eventually got to a better place.  I made a few sweet and real friends who loved me for me.  Or as Florida called us, the Dooney Club (cross-body Dooney & Bourke purses were all the rage in the mid-90's and we all wore one daily).

I've actually had a few more of these stories as an adult though.  So it most certainly doesn't end in high school.  But I think age gives you a really powerful tool: perspective.  Because the most recent time it happened, about five years ago, I both brushed it off and didn't let it go.  By that I mean, that I immediately looked for new friends.  Which of course didn't come instantly but I set about it much faster instead of repeating a semester of sitting alone in the library, so to speak.  And I didn't let it go because I talk about that experience frequently.  I am not bitter, but I think that when we don't talk about these things openly, it breeds an environment to allow the situations to repeat over and over again.  I acknowledge that it happened in a way that I hope helps my group to not go down that path again.

So back to the mug.

I can't believe any educated woman would have the nerve to brag about such a foul attitude on social media.  I also can't believe a company that is named after and run by a female would create and market such a painfully defining moment in so many lives.  What a sad thing to boast on a website that is otherwise full of so many  cute and colorful images!

Were you ever excluded from the lunch table as a kid?  Or perhaps as an adult?  How long did it take you to realize that mean girls will be mean girls, regardless of what you wear, drive and say?

Holidays vs. Christmas

I park so that I can walk through the row of trees and kissing balls at the grocery store and smell the evergreen!  For me the holiday is about simple pleasures and not being proper according to the vocabulary police!

I am so annoyed by the "you're not a good person unless you say 'Merry Christmas'" attitude permeating social media.  I cannot think of a less Christ-like and less loving spirit to have.

Yup...I said it.  I think it is rude beyond rude to claim that when someone wishes you a happy anything other than the specific word "Christmas" that they are less faith-filled, less loving of God, political, Atheist, bad, immoral, or any of the other ridiculous claims floating about.

When someone wishes you a happy anything, you say THANK YOU.

How often do people walk around sharing well wishes?

Really...I'm asking.  How often do you go into a store or walk down the street or do anything these days and leave with a collection (or even a single) well wish of any variety?

For me, it's very rare.  Once in a blue moon, or should I say yellow sunshine, I get wished a good weekend if it's forecasted to be nice out and the conversation includes that prediction.  And then around the holidays, I often get wishes well in relation to those.  But that's pretty much it for me.  So when I am offered a well-wish of any variety, I absorb and accept it!

I use Christmas and Holidays interchangeably.  On Christmas Eve and Day, I surely use the word Christmas.  But outside of those two days, I say whatever comes to mind.  But when I say it, I mean it.  When I wish someone well, regardless of semantics, I sincerely mean it.  I am not pushing an agenda or a form of faith.  If I am pushing anything, it's genuine kindness.  (Admittedly...I have more to offer some days than other days!)

So yes, my panties are in a bunch over the ungrateful, bratty, snobby, rude, and unloving social media soundbites that so many are posting over the word holiday.  If we run into each other this coming week and I've read your "I'm a better person because I use the word Christmas" rant on Facebook, please take no offense when I offer you a merry or happy nothing.  You clearly have such a plethora of love and an over-abundance of well-wishes in your life that you can pick and chose which to embrace and which to mock.  And I am in no mood to have my sincerity noted for it's lack of goodness, according to your expert judgement.

Until the spirit moves me or until the 24th rolls around....

Happy Holidays!

My Week And My Favorite Hair Conditioner

* It snowed last night.  Multiple times.  Not a terrible amount of accumulation but I suspect my grumpiness over an inch in December is only going to increase over the next four months.  I'll do my best not to blog my dismay at the sight of ever snowflake.  But I can't make any promises.  I just can't get past being gloomy and disgruntled about winter this year.  Normally this attitude doesn't set in until the end of March.

* I miss Florida.  (stating the obvious...clearly)

* Cousin got back with loser boyfriend last night, per the ever so klassy Facebook announcement he made that included all thing loser things he's done, but he's now sober, and basically people need to get over it.  At this point though I don't care  Or I do, but it's not for me to say anything.  She has to walk this walk on her own.  I hope it's a short walk this time though.  Like...around the block and back.  I love her so much and hope one day she can see what we all see in her.  But as we all know, we have to come to these things in our own time.

* I am so happy that The Sing Off is back on TV!  I just wish they would keep/include some of the more traditional preppy college boys.  Every year they always kick them off first, which is weird to me.  Jewel on the show is great though.

* I read recently that Scandal, which I happen to think is one of the most well-written and acted shows ever, right up there with West Wing, had the season cut short.  Yet that completely unfunny Michael J. Fox show is still hanging in there.

* My girlfriend, Super Nice, gave me the best Christmas gift this week.  I'll show y'all that tomorrow.  Seriously the most thoughtful and personal gift.  Loved it!

* And finally, a product review.  From a company that once again doesn't know I exist.  I just seriously love this product.

I present to you the very best hair conditioner....

Suave Color Protection

OK so I am very specific about hair products.  I have fine hair and sensitive skin and oily but also dry skin.  I'm a dermatologist's dream come true!  For years I have been using John Freida conditioner.  Which I do still completely adore.

But I ran out two weeks ago and didn't realize I was without a back-up bottle in the closet.

I did however have two bottles of this Suave conditioner that I had purchased for free with coupons recently.  They were about to find their way into a bag I am donating to a local homeless shelter.  As I was conditioner-less, a major crisis in my world, I tried it out.

And.  I.  Love.  It.

My hair feels like satin!  It does such a good job of conditioning but not making my hair feel heavy.  And this big bottle is a whopping $2.89 regularly at Target.  That's without sales or coupons, both of which are easy to find.  Under $3!!  For the best conditioner ever!!

I realize we all have our own tastes.  But if you are in the market for a great conditioner and a crazy inexpensive price, I highly recommend Suave!  I've been using it daily for two weeks and I still can't believe how much I love this product!

Who knew?!

* I must must must remember to go get a flu shot this weekend.  I know some folks are opposed to them but I am not of that variety.  The thing is, when I get sick, I get REALLY sick.  It might only happen once a year but what is a two day illness for normal people will be a two week on my death bed illness for me.  So I take precautions.  Of course, it doesn't keep me from getting other freak illnesses...

* My week has been and my weekend will be full.  But it's a good thing.  There were years when my holidays were empty.  It's nice to have these really full weeks!

Free Ice Cream For A Year

Free ice cream for a year

Have y'all tasted Talenti gelato?  It is hands down my favorite brand.  Seriously THE best flavors.  Actually, the raspberry sorbet is my very favorite.  I can't even begin to explain how amazing it is.

For fellow fans, just a head's up that they have a contest running on Facebook right now to win a year's supply of gelato.  I've already entered ... and am fully intending on winning.  Ha.  But you know, feel free to enter yourself, too.  I will say that they do post coupons from time to time via Facebook, so it's worth it to like them even if you don't win.

(Talenti doesn't know I exist.  I just really, truly love their products.  Remember when bloggers could post things they loved without having to make a special note to explain they were unpaid for the post?)

To Everything There Is A {Coat} Season

This cape looks both chic and cozy!

Yesterday it was in the high 50's here.  And today they are predicting snow.  Fan-freakin-tastic.

Y'all...and I just over winter this year.  {Nevermind that winter doesn't even officially start until the 21st of December.}  I'm not interested in dealing with the snow and my least favorite, the salt.  I'm tired of not seeing sunshine.  I'm tired of days with an hour of sunshine being considered nice.  I'm tired of it.

Which does not bode well for me over the next six months.

I need buck up, I know.  It's a season.  A bloody long, grey season.  But it will end.  Eventually.

Until then I am trying hard to cheer myself up with cute coats and winter accessories.  It's only sort of working.  I am drooling over some of these coats though...

And fun accessories...

I'm not convinced that coats and boots will really cheer me up or make winter shorter.  But it's worth a shot when you are over winter a month before it even starts!

How are you handling winter this year?  Excited?  Dreading it?  It's a season and you're unopinionated about the matter?

Sound of Music vs. Scandal

Sound of Music...the new version

I said {to myself} that I wasn't going to watch the live remake of Sound of Music last night.  Because I am not big on remakes.  If the original version is still completely awesome {and it is}, why make a new version?  As the saying goes...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!  I was just skeptical of the whole ordeal and decided to avoid it.

Sound of Music...the original!

But then curiosity got the best of me so I flipped over to watch for five minutes.

Y'all...I am shocked so many people on Facebook and Twitter were into it!  I thought it was so weird.  The acting was off.  They were singing the songs at the wrong times.  It was just all off to me.  I actually clicked on it a second time, not realizing it went so late, and had the same opinion.

#Scandal

#Scandal on the other hand...brought the damn house down!  I cannot believe how many twists and turns were in that episode!!  The mom.  Cyrus.  James.  Quinn...is she with Olivia or against her and how many teeth did she lose?  And the biggest shocker...Sally!  I can't even get over how wild it was and can't wait for the conclusion {that will no doubt be full of cliff-hangers created to drive me insane} next week.

What was on your TV screen last night?  Are you a Scandal fan?  Ruth and I tweet it out on Thursday nights so please feel free to join in our #canyoubelievethatjusthappened fun!

Say My Name, Say My Name

I was talking to one of the besties last night about my name.  Not KK or my full name.  But what I go by to all of my kids.  My Godbabies and nieces and nephews.

I've not really thought much about it since Godson J was born.  I knew I would be Auntie KK to him.  When I was asked to be his Godmother, I thought it was funny to refer to myself as his Auntie Fairy Godmother KK.  But that certainly didn't stick.

But I didn't think much about the fact that my Butler Besties' Babies all call me Titi KK (pronounced TeeTee).  Butler Bestie Belle grew up calling her (Hispanic) aunt, Titi.  It's a common nickname for auntie and as I am from South Florida, it was a familiar term.  Somewhere along the way, the four of us knew we would always be Titis to each others children.

Bestie always thought this was funny but spelled it TT.  So I was TT KK.  I don't even know when or how but I can't think of the last time I referred to myself to her three boys as anything other than TT KK.

Well the bestie last night told me that where she lives, aunties are commonly called Tutu.  How cute is that?!

So let's review.  I go by my full name once in a blue moon or when talking to my father.  I go by KK 95% of the time.  I go by Auntie KK in Florida and NY.  I go by Titi KK in Indiana.  I go by TT KK in Georgia.  And apparently in a state-to-be-named-later, I go by Tutu KK.

I'm sure an identity crisis is in my near future.  But truth be told, I kind of love it!!  There' a lot of love wrapped up in those silly nicknames.

On Why I Collect Nothing

I had life sized versions of this.

This has resurfaced three or four times over the last month so I thought I'd share here too.  It's really just a little nothing story about my childhood, to be honest.  But it's so funny the things that impact you long term.

penguin sweater

So when I was in the fourth grade, I decided that I loved penguins.  As a result, people started to buy me penguin related items.  Thus a collection began.  However, like most fourth graders, my obsession waned about a year later.  I mean, even today I still like penguins well enough.  So it's not as if I suddenly hated penguins.  But I wasn't all about them either.

penguin socks

However...I was not brave enough to mention that to anyone.

I'm an introvert and a people pleaser and it seemed to make people happy to gift me with anything and everything penguin.

For years.  Years!  Like all through middle school.

one can never have enough clothing with penguins

I'm not sure I ever said something to be honest.  I think people just ran out of penguin shit to buy for me and that's why the collection finally stopped growing.

But I learned a critical life lesson.  Don't collect anything.  And if you do, don't tell anyone.

Seriously.  I know my family and friends meant well in their penguin gifts for a solid four years.  But just because I liked something didn't mean I wanted every item I owned to be penguin related.

MacKenzie-Childs Ware

So now, however many years later, when asked what I collect, even though I do {secretly} collect vintage Lilly Pulitzer dresses and MacKenzie Childs Ware, I keep that to myself.  I'll handle my own collecting for fear it will again be all-consuming to those {well meaning} people around me.

So tell me...do you collect anything?  Have you ever regretted sharing it with people?  Do you have any secret collections like me?

Thanksgiving Week Updates

Well let's see...I need to play catch-up, don't I?

How was your Thanksgiving?  Relaxing and delicious, I hope!

Mine was lovely.  Once again I opted to stay in bed instead of running the Turkey Trot that was just outside.  It was cold and miserable this year.  And my bed was warm and cozy with my fur baby.  So that's that.  Supper...or as I convinced the kids it should be called, Linner (it took place at 3...lunch + dinner...get it?)...was great.  We don't have any special traditions.  Very standard turkey and sides.  But all good.

Such a fun family game!

After filling our faces with pie, we played card games with the kids this year.  Apples to Apples, which I thought was really funny, and another game that was similar to Trivial Pursuit but it was all about food history.  Both were entertaining.  And I was home by 7:30ish to relax and wait for the fullness to subside.  (Which didn't happen until the following day.)

My weekend was low key but lovely.  I got some stuff done.  I am 99% done shopping- just two small parts to gifts left that will be picked up this week.  I do have a good bit left to make and am wishing I started those projects far earlier.  Like in July.  I'm proud to say though that every item I purchased was done so online.  Not mall for this little crocodile!  Woo hoo.  And in total, I paid less than $4 for shipping.  I love that I have a package in the mail every other day, too.  Even though nothing is for me, it's still fun to open up the boxes to see all of the gifts I've ordered.

Sunday began with Sadie having not one but two seizures.  One right after the other.  Even though she is fine 20 minutes later, it is a wretched way to start your day.  She deep slept most of the day as she always does after an episode.  I was on nerve about everything.  As I always am.  Ugh.

Then at some point on Sunday evening, I think I scratched my eye.  Well...at the time I thought I had an eyelash in it and spent hours trying to get it out.  But when I woke up Monday with it still hurting and clearly nothing was in my eye, my new self-diagnosis is that it's scratched.  It hurts like heck but only in part due to it being scratched (or whatever).  Mostly it hurts because I either touch it constantly (when I still thought I had something in it) or I keep it closed like a pirate, which is causing those nerves to be stressed (or something).  I'm really hoping this ends soon because it's putting me in a completely foul mood.

Monday after I went to a Baubles and Bubbles (jewelry and champers) party at District's home, I came home to quickly bake up a custard to take on Tuesday night to the JLA board holiday party.  I don't know where I went wrong but this was the result.  I had the temperature correct and the recipe correct and yet...it puffed up and bubbled over and my oven is now covered in burnt custard and the top of the one to take looks like crap.  I had extra and baked it in little ramekins and it does taste great.  But gosh it looks terrible.  I'm thinking of covering it with whipped cream for tonight.  Thoughts??  I'm so bummed it looks so bad.  But I'm out of time to make anything else.  My sweet friend Jennifer, whom I also got to see last night, has this great line when she brings something to parties that she buys instead of bakes.  When asked if she made it, she says she made it possible.  I could probably pop up to the Italian bakery to make something possible.  But I doubt it will be gluten free, which would sort of stink for me.

And finally, I am thanking Baby Jesus that these candies are only available for a limited time.

Dark Chocolate Filled With Mint Truffle

I don't really like chocolate.  It's just never been my thing.  But let me tell you bob, these mint Hershey's Kisses are the devil in disguise.  Holy bloody delicious!!  I could eat three bags a week if I had them in the house.  If these were available year-round I would for sure need to be crane lifted out of the house.  Just seeing the bag I am totally craving 17 right now.

Oh I thought of one more thing.  So I mentioned not running the Turkey Trot.  But something weird happened.  I regretted it!  True story.  I saw all the fun photos on Facebook and was all bummed that I didn't go run it (it's literally out my door) with any of my many friends who did.  And then on Monday when I was in an incredibly frustrated mood due to everything but nothing in particular (just one of those days), I thought several times, I should work out or run or something to relieve this annoying pent up stress.  I kept thinking about how Mermaid keeps the coo coo in the clock by working out and my coo coo is on the lose lately.  So there's that.  I thought about being healthy.  I didn't actually do it.  We don't want to get too crazy up here in the casa de crocodile.  But I thought about it in a very real way.  Weird, right?  I'll be sure to let you know if I actually get consistently healthy.  Wouldn't want to rush into it...

And that, my sweet friends, pretty much brings you up to date on me.  Fill me in on you!  What's shaking in your world these days?
