I absolutely cannot believe that this blog is six years old today. Complete shock that I've lasted so long!
This story has been told and re-told several times over the years but as I rarely remember to note my bloggy birthday, I am going to re-tell it again today.
How it all began....
Six plus years ago I was googling monograms.
And stumbled upon Monogram Momma (she no longer blogs) who did a post about adding monograms to shoes. I had no idea what I was looking at. I didn't know it was called a blog or what on earth a blog was. But I kept reading and found all these great craft project ideas. I loved that site! And on the side, she had links to a few other similar sites. The very next site I clicked on was Grosgrain Garage, thinking it was a store selling grosgrain ribbon. It wasn't, though Lisagh loves ribbon and fabric as much as I do! Again, I had no idea what I was looking at. But I was starting to get the idea that these were normal people writing these things. I found Libby, Mel and Chloe. None of them are currently blogging but I keep up with all of them on Facebook and Twitter.
To me, they were these cool girls. It took me a long time to figure out that they didn't know each other. I mean, they did via blogs, but they didn't have a history. I wanted to be part of the club.
So I started my own blog. In total secret. And in hopes of promoting my business.
I never really became part of that club. I never really used it much to self-promote. And I eventually tiptoed out of the closet and told Bestie about the blog. She thought I was crazy. Then she thought it was sort of cool. And eventually she started her own blog. Ha.
I'd like to say my early posts were dumb and I have grown into writing amazing posts. But I post just as much nonsense now as I did six years ago. I have, however, come to a place of feeling more comfortable opening up on here. Which was really big for me. I've told y'all about my childhood and mother and feelings of failure. Even bigger was the first time I added a personal photo a year or two after starting the blog. Personal photos are still few and far between but I'm getting braver each year. (My fear has little to do with being judged and more to do with living in a small town and being too exposed.)
I've grown with this blog. I love that I have a record of my life. I love even more that I can look up my own recipes. Oh...did I not explain to you that I post recipes much of the time because I am lazy and don't want to write them somewhere else? Well, the truth comes out. I write recipe posts entirely for my own record-keeping. I love that I can see the ups and downs of my life. And I love the most that I have developed so many sincere and lovely friendships over the years. I've met very few bloggers in person. But I have a few handfuls of sweet women who mean the world to me. I know that one of these days, I will get to meet many of my best bloggy buddies! It will happen.
So while today might seem silly to outsiders, those blogging for any amount of time likely understand what an occasion it is to say that today I have been blogging for exactly SIX YEARS!
And to celebrate....I have something fun up my sleeve. Stay tuned for a treat a bit later today.
