TV Short

Dear Lilly Pulitzer,

You know I have been loyal since birth.  I am your biggest fan.  A true, old friend.  But as a friend, I feel it is important to be honest.  So are you sitting down?

The length of your dresses this season are in questionable taste!

They are sooo short.  Like TV show short.  You know, at a length that only someone on a TV show can pretend to wear but no one would actually wear out into the real world.  Not your target audience anyway.  Unless you are once again trying to change your target audience.

When a woman sits in some of these dresses, all that God gave her is going to be depending on that last inch of fabric to remain concealed.  No self-respecting woman wants to leave her standing in society up to a few threads.

These white dresses are beyond fabulous.  But would it kill you to give us a few dresses that touched our knees?

Your prints are out of this world creative, Lilly Pulitzer!  But unless you are going to drop your prices significantly, you owe me the extra inches of fabric you cut off half the dresses in the collection this season. Because Lilly, without the class you just have ic(k)!

My favorite new print!

See how nice it looks with the dress falling at her knees?!

I know the petite girls are grumbling that they finally have dresses that don't require the extra expense of hemming.  But the thing is, my sweet petite friends, when a dress is too short to begin with, there is nothing that can be done to fix that.  So please understand this plea is not a slight against the petites of the world.  It's just that I don't enjoy stressing over possible peep show moments every time I sit down or get out of a car.

So glad we had this little chat!  I look forward to dresses with a wee smidgen more fabric next season!

Preppy love,
KK

I sooooooooooooooo agree! I wanted to get a dress in Lilly State of Mind, but yikes! I adore the print so very much, I settled on a pair of Resort Burmudas! {No peep show there!} And trust me, we are not alone!!

I'm right under 5'2" and the regular length was right where I like it. I hate dresses that come about the middle of my knees. (I have ugly knees)

Lilly hasn't been available in my town for a good while and finally a new store opened that is just Lilly. I stopped in the other day and thought the same thing about the skirts. The dresses were short but not as bad as the skirts. What are they thinking?

Totally Agree was just talking about this yesterday. I call it dressing age appropriate , and I don't care how thin you are your skirt should not be up that high.

I am very short and tall ladies do not realize how expensive hemming is...especially when you are 5'1" and have to have EVERYTHING hemmed. I guess they are trying to save me money ;)

Thank you very much. My sentiments exactly. I'm on the short side, but still don't like anything to come that far up the leg. As you stated, it is not tasteful and makes the wrong statement.
I know what they're trying to do. It seems to me that Lilly is now trying to compete, in a way, with the Amercrombie and Hollister crowd and the "mini". I think that is a bad move in the wrong direction.

I actually read somewhere online that Lilly dresses are longer than they appear- they hem the samples that they use for catalogs and stuff and that makes them appear shorter.

Then again, I do remember reading a review of a dress last season that said that the girl's bum showed in the dress. Eeek!

I've always had to have their dresses chopped. I'm surprised to hear they are short. I have to get into one of their stores soon

i totally agree. I was looking at them and alL I could think is with these lengths they can't be worn to work too. And with my budget I can't buy something at those prices unless I could wear it to work too.

I purchased the Jeanette dress from the sale in January in my regular size only to be horrified when I tried it on. I had planned on wearing it to a garden wedding but couldn't lift my arms over my head without flashing the general public. Way too short. Not a good look Lilly.

TOTALLY AGREE! Many Lilly styles are much too short for me. Maybe they need to start making some styles in petite AND regular.

Totally agree. I just tried on the Somerset dress last Friday and I couldn't believe how short it was. I'm only 5'3!! The cut was weird too, but that's for another post.

This has been bothering me about our beloved LP for years. At 5'8" my choices are extremely limted.

At 5'6.5" (not short - not tall) - lots of the new styles are way too short for me as well! At 41, they're just not age appropriate. More tragic than anything, I can't wear them to work. Epic fail....I will be sticking to the silk jersey styles (which tend to run a little longer and can generally be worn to work). Great post! XOXO

I'm 5'8" and I completely agree! When I pay a lot of money for a dress or a skirt I want to be able to wear it a lot so that means it should be long enough to wear to work or in other situations where I need to be particularly modest.
