Just Dip The Chip

I know you've seen them.  And secretly thought, that kind of looks amazingly fabulous.  But people will judge me.

I've seen chocolate dipped potato chips in fancy food shops for a few years now.  And I always think, I could make that for a fraction of the price.  So I finally did.  I gave some to my dad.  Who looked at me as if I lost my mind.  Two chips later he asked me for more.  I gave some to a group during a meeting.  Same reaction.  They look like a trashy snack.  But the taste makes your embrace the silliness.  Salty and sweet and crunchy and smooth.

What the heck am I talking about?  Making your own chocolate covered ridged potato chips!

You can buy them at fancy food shops but you can make them in 30 minutes for about $4.  Less if you are skilled at using coupons.

Ingredients:
Ridged potato chips
Bag of good chocolate chips

Directions:
Melt chocolate chips over a double boiler until smooth and fully melted.  Pick out the good chips.  Dip half the chip in the melted chocolate.  Remove excess (I used a small spatula to take off the excess).  Set to dry on lined baking sheet.

(photos taken with blackberry because camera is broken so excuse the terrible images)

Be careful...it is very very hard to eat just one.

The good news is that they are super fun and easy and gluten free.

I can see how these would be seriously addicting. There's no way that I could stop at just one!

yum!!!
i typically give these as a gift to my boss each year....from Green Mountain Chocolates. They were written up in the boston globe years ago, and the chocolate-dipped potato chip is their best seller. Bet i could make them for a lot less!

I am surprised these are coming in to fashion now - I remember back in the mid 80's buying them in a chocolate shop in Niagara Falls.

This is so funny. I had leftover melted chocolate after making cake balls and I decided to be funny and get out a bag of Ruffles and dip them. The entire family was dippin' within a few minutes. Some liked it, some didn't. I like sweet and salty together.

Well, there yo uhave it, my new favorite food! I am not too good to try "trashy" snacks...they're normally the best kind! I'll be making this soon..thanks!

I never thought about how easy it would be to make these, but they're the perfect combination of sweet and salty. I saw chocolate covered ritz crackers at the grocery store and am ashamed to admit I bought a box. They were good but not as amazing as chocolate covered potato chips.
