Dear Retail Industry,
Do you think it is funny showing me wool pants and sweaters in those dreaded "fall" colors in the middle of my much deserved summer season? Do get your kicks from seeing my reaction of bikinis and tank tops in early February just as another Nor'easter is blowing through town? Well stop it, damn it!! No one needs shorts and cover ups when it is snowing outside. Do you know what I use as a cover up in the months of December through sometimes April (or later)? I cover my pasty white body up in a heavy coat, cords and boots. Often times I cleverly accessorize with this fancy thing know up here as a knit cap and matching mittens. And let us not forget the ever important scarf. Nowhere in that description does it allow for breezy tops or bermuda shorts. And since I get to wear that divine, flatter-figuring, makes you sweat when you walk inside outfit for six loooong months, I take offense to you bringing it out and claiming to to be all shiny and new. It's not. I don't care what you did or what special dyes you are debuting this season. It's all the same junk from years past. It's all a reminder that my time wearing sundresses and sandals is very limited. So to be blunt, you can take that fall '08 collection and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I don't care where- closet, back room, your car, wherever. It's still July. It's sunny and warm. It's glorious summer, retail industry! I did my time (and then some) with winter. Give me back my summer or we're going to have a hissy fit on our hands. I don't use it very often but every well-raised girl knows how to win a properly placed hissy fit in life!!
Sincerely,
PPC

Hate it!
You go girl, we're with you on this one! Every day The Princess hears or sees something and then is forced to stop dead in her tracks and say, "Allright, remain calm, breath...breath...it's not yet August... calm... breath..."
Oddly there was a fairly lengthy bit in Women's Wear Daily about a suggested movement back to seasonal clothing arriving in the appropriate season, that women have become turned off by things just like you are talking about.
We've got your back!
TP
AMEN!! It *just* got warm here, there is no way I'm ready to look at fall clothing yet!
I totally agree with you! My local J Crew is always burning up in the summer, so the very last thing I want to do is try on sweaters and corduroy pants. I still need cotton shorts and tanks, not wool sweaters.
I am so with you. I am NOT ready to begin my ever fruitless search for a proper vegan winter coat. Yuck.
Trust me I understand as well. Right now Nordstrom is having their anniversary sale and it is mainly winter clothing. Now I worked many years ago for Nordstrom in Southern California and while I loved the job and the store when this time came and it was 100 plus degrees outside uggh!
We had to wear clothing that was appropriate to the season that was selling in the store. I do not know if that is the way it is now but then it was.
I later on had a job at a clothing store in my hometown in Illinois and well it was just a little botique store and the rules weren quite so tight.
I love your blog!
In response to your question about Sliced Lemon Ice Cream, I am so sorry but I think you are out of luck. They only make it at the Cabarrus Creamery in Concord, NC My old hometown. Maybe Ben and Jerry will catch on to it one day! You might could make some homemade if you do that type of thing.
I am with you on that one. I do have to say, I almost get ready for fall stuff when october comes around and it is still 90 degrees, but I did say almost. I know the technical reason why they put the stuff out, but it still sucks!
ditto!
AMEN! As much as I love everything J. Crew has done for Fall '08, we're still in SUMMER.
Let us enjoy it!
I went into JCrew today and they had 1 rack of summer clothing. 1! It isn't even AUGUST yet!
I agree...I do get excited for Fall since I like Fall clothes the best, but it is annoying that they come out so early.
PS I tagged you if you haven't already done this one.
Tag! Check my blog!:)
Sad, yes. But by the time it gets chilly early Fall is on SALE!
I agree. It's in the upper 90's here. I can't believe the new fall stuff. Who wants to look at it now?
Thanks for the feedback! I write about vegan fashion for my newsletter, veganbabe.com, so I've covered ol' Natalie before. Tres pricey, but cute!
I sooooooooo agree!
i left a comment last time (before i jumped on the blogwagon) annon last time--but you sent me the member only shopping invites! thank you so much! ([email protected])
I think I'm the odd one out on this issue...fall is my FAVORITE season! I've been wearing sundresses since March, I'm ready to break out the tall leather boots and sweaters!
AMEN!
It's definitely annoying - moreso in your Antarctic town, I'm sure! But I guess one upside is you can get clearance stuff in-season.
Though I must say I'm personally ready for fall to get its butt here. I'm over this heat for sure. I was just looking at the crew fall 'log yesterday and was thinking the blazers and cords looked rather dreamy. And the shoes.... drool.
Ditto! Summer is my favorite time of year and we are still in July! I am afraid to even go to the Mall for fear of the Fall lineup. I am not looking forward to retiring my white jeans just yet.
Oh fall is actually my favorite season too- just not in July or August. We wait a LONG time up here for summer to make her grand entrance so I am not at all ready for her to leave me just yet.
AMEN! And the same goes to those retailers who are putting out Halloween costumes already!!! Seriously!
"No one needs shorts and cover ups when it is snowing outside."
Those of us that travel do.
I'm with buford betty! the heat in the South is so miserable!! Of course, fall to us is a breezy 78 degrees! :)
I just came across your blog today and it is too cute! I have added you to my blogroll!
I just wanted to confirm that you received my mailing address. Please let me know.
Amen! And now my kids are fighting over the Halloween costume catalog I received in the mail YESTERDAY! Come on!
AMEN my preppy friend...AMEN!
