Magic Marker

Last night I decided that the bathroom needed a full force scrub down. Do you ever get that way? Just all of a sudden, you feel the need to clean? No, just me? OK, so anyway I needed to scrub-a-dub-dub right then and there. My bathroom is not huge so it doesn't take me long. But I didn't change into grubby clothes. And I was wearing a new black Lilly polo shirt. You can see where this is going, can't you? Yeah, I totally somehow got bleach scrub cleaner stuff on my shirt. Just a few spots of water that splashed up because I decided I needed to do this while dinner was on the stove and I was rushing. I was about in tears all night. I love this shirt. I've only worn it once and now it has these ugly orange spots all over it.

So hours later I was still sulking and then it hit me. Black Sharpie. I mean, the shirt certainly couldn't get any worse, right? And I have stated on this blog many times my love for my Sharpies....they are the best! So cautiously, I gave it a chance. Gasp! Orange spots be gone!! It totally worked! From spots to no spots....stinkin' brilliant if you ask me! The shirt is back to new and fabulous. Yay!!

Phew! Glad to hear the story has a happy ending! Good thing it was black and not another color! :)

That is WONDERFUL! I am so glad that sharpies saved the day, you should send the story into them, maybe they will put you in a commercial or send you free Sharpies for life, which may be even better!

I get the same way, only the time that I did it and regretted it, I was wearing my favorite black Ann Taylor pants. I tried dying them, didn't work.

I can totally relate! I get compulsive on sleaning something. There should also be a warning on Soft Scrub. Thankfully your Lily is saved!

That is SUCH a good idea! I must file it away for future use. :)

You're so smart! I probably would have just gotten mad and thrown the shirt away!

my mother did that with a really cute pair of embroidered pants she had. Worked out rather well.

Tag ... you're it!

It's a great plan; just be careful and wait until it dries before the shirt touches anything...I ruined a pair of Lauren khaki capris by putting them on too quickly after I made the same solution!!

Glad the Lilly survived, though! :)

That happened to one of my mother's black skirts. We took a Sharpie and the white spot was gone.

I'll pull out the old black Sharpie marker when my favorite black leather flats look like they need some TLC. My hallmates thought that I was nuts until they saw the results. I never thought to use it on fabric. Kudos!

The same thing happened to me! I was living in France last summer and I was scrubbing the bathroom floor to impress my host family before we left for the French Riviera the next day and voila! white splatters all over my gorgeous new skirt!! So depressing! So happy you had such a genius moment!

Maybe you should send your story to the Sharpie people. Better yet, maybe a post about 100 alternative uses for your Sharpie markers???

Cute story! I've been known to put a black Sharpie to the heels of my black shoes myself :)

Yay!!! I always do spur-of-the-moment cleanings, too. I had to restrain myself a few weeks ago when I *needed* to scrub the shower down at midnight. I didn't do it then, but did it the very next morning.

Glad to hear your shirt is not ruined forever.

I do both. The bathroom cleaning thing will hit me (it can happen at anytime) and I scrub away like crazy!! When I was pregnant, I was constantly getting my huge tummy in bleach (again, the cleaning attacks) and I used sharpies to fill in the spots. Still do it to this day. Fantastic!

Yay for Sharpie!!!! I also use that RIT dye. They have all kinds of colors even black. I can't tell you how many times they have saved me.

Nice save! And yes, I get that urge to clean randomly too!

Awesome save! I did the same thing with a brand new J Crew shirt I was wearing last week! We had someone coming over, so I did a quick clean of the bathroom before they showed up, and comet ruined my shirt; it is bright green. I will definitely try your trick!

Thats great! Glad it worked! Also, if the spots ever come back I had this happen on a polo shirt once, just soak it in water for an hour and they should dissolve, crazy I know but it works!

I LOVE Sharpies...they are good for anything. Sharpies are the woman's version of Duct Tape for men!

This an old hairdresser trick! I have used it when I splatter bleach at work many times.

I love all the colored sharpies. This trick works in all shades.

Well I guess if you can use sharpies on shoes why not clothes too? How resourceful!

I have always wondered about this! I am a Sharpie fanatic, I have over 80 markers including some limited colors!

thank goodness, that would be such a shame & waste of a perfectly cute Lily shirt! Sharpies rock! I've used them on shoes too.

That is TERRIFIC! The same thing happened to me with a light pink shirt during a cleaning frenzy. SO SAD!

Maybe you should change your blog's name to Sharpies Save The Day!
