It's all mine as of this afternoon! Originally $150, on sale for $99, minus the 20% discount they have running right now and plus the free shipping the store gave me when they were out of my size, total = $79! I can't wait to wear it!
Actually, JCrew and I were having a little spat this afternoon. You see, I think that when I walk in the store and there are four employees standing around gossiping about whoknowswhat and ignoring me as I proceed to pick up 15 items over the course of 20 minutes, that it's just plain rude and bad business sense. Not even a hello. As I am walking into the dressing room, girl A decides to ask me if I need a room. Well, I wasn't going there to look at my hot self in the mirror, that's for sure. I was falling over from my load of clothing to try on (which is the way I always do it because as I have said before, I really really really dislike trying clothes on. So if I do actually make the effort (because the store is not super close to my house), it all must go in with me on the first go-round. No exceptions. I will never re-dress myself and then go back in for round two. Ever. Just not my thing.) and you only now want to speak to me. Whatever. I proceed to try on. Then boy A decides to give my room, that I am using while I am half nekkid, to a clearly more exceptional customer. I know that she must be better than me because he offered to bring her bottled water and said to just let him know if she needs anything at all. Girl A who opened my door did not offer anything to me. Then two more dressing rooms fill up and those gals get offered the moon, too. They knock on all their doors asking if they need different sizes. I totally needed a smaller size in three items. I waited for someone to ask me. No one did. So I didn't buy the items. Because I was bitter. Yes, I totally hold a grudge. So I go to the cash register and ask for them to find me the madras in my size and please get me the extra 20% discount too that is being offered online. Twice I was asked to shout my size across the store. Which I could care less about honestly. But what bothers me is that he asked it in that whisper tone of voice that says "OMG I am so sorry for you that you wear this gargantuan size, you obese fool!" Begrudgingly, Boy A does place the order for me after about 15 mins of me waiting. So as I am standing there waiting, Girl A and B (I didn't see Boy B at this point) proceed to stare at me and discuss why I was standing there. Just so you know ladies, my ears work just fine thankyouverymuch. We were all only standing within about five feet of each other. I could hear you. It was all very awkward. Boy A motions for me to come over to the phone and said it was all great, blah blah blah. As I pick up the phone to place the order, I asked him if he could wrap up my other purchases so that I could pay for those when I was finished. At this point I was tired of standing in the store and wanted to be on my way. I guess he didn't realize that I wanted the other items too. Not sure how he missed that as I both said it and assume that the gesture of bringing up a pile of items to the counter is the universal signal that I am going to take these puppies home with me. He about leaped up and was all "Oh really? Great! I'll wrap those up for you right away!!" So I get my online discount and free shipping from the phone girl and go pay for the other items I was purchasing. Boy proceeds to tell me how he convinced them to give me free shipping because I was making other purchases in the store. Um, OK, except that you didn't realize I was making said purchases until after you got off the phone with the online peeps. Whatever. I let you have that one and offered up a compliment and thank you. Now all three of you are fawning over me. I was thirsty so I did accept your water. But listen up JCrew....this happens to me almost every time I am in your stores. And it is insulting. I was dressed nice today- khaki skirt, Lilly polo, ribbon belt and Bonannos. I might not be a size two but good golly miss molly, I am going to stop shopping at your establishments if you don't quit being so stinking annoying to me.

On the flip side, I bought some of the cutest items and all were on big time sale. I really wanted this dress in pink but since my store only had it in blue (and white and chartreuse- but I didn't dig those as much)... I know it looks a little like a toddler dress but so do half the clothes in my wardrobe so who cares?! I love it. That's two blue dresses this year from JCrew. Which brings my blue clothing total up to ....two. Just not a blue girl. But both are this fun, bright blue. Does this count as "branching out?"
OK, so I don't hate JCrew. Obviously. I mean, I did buy way too many dresses today. But I just think that considering the current economy, they might muster up enough energy to like, acknowledge that I have been standing in their presence for a solid 20 minutes. Shape up, JCrew!!

I am so with you! Nothing makes me madder than to be ignored by sales clerks who are WORKING while I am the one shopping. It is usually the young ones who are so stupid as to think that they are more important than the actual person doing the buying. True story...I was shopping at Saks and could not get anyone to wait on me. Now I was dressed "presentably" and my jewelry added to the whole look. (just saying) When those idiot girls didn't wait on me or help me with sizes in the 40 or so minutes I was in the dressing room, I got revenge. I walked up to the counter with all of my stuff and they finally came rushing over to check me out (commission.) I said, Oh, I have a question could you please call the store manager. When he came over I proceeded to tell him about the service and asked that he find someone a bit more up to par with my requirements to please ring up my purchase. It was over $1500. The girls stood there with their mouths open and I told them to remember this because I would make sure none of my friends ever shopped during their sales schedule in the future. It was PRICELESS!! I did return about $800 worth of stuff to another store but, they didn't have to know it and I felt GREAT! I now refuse to let some little minimum wage fashion wannabe ruin my shopping experience! Sorry for writing a book but the topic just makes me fume!
I ADORE that blue dress. It's smocked it reminds me of being a little girl! I too cannot wait to own it. Sorry you had such a hid experience at Mecca today. Some sales people can be so dense!
I HATE that. I look really young for my age so most of the time people automatically assume that I don't have any money and they don't give me the time of day. I don't care how much I want something in that store, I cannot stand being treated like that. I mean I work retail and I am nice to everyone, why can't they be too.
You are a much bigger person than I am! I would have totally called that kid out on his lie and then called the manager over. I can't stand to be treated that way when I'm shopping!
I went to Jcrew last night and picked up a pair of pants that were on sale but she said the 20% off was only on accessories? I might not keep the pants when I pulled them out of the bag my hubs said,"are those pajamas?" Granted they are a lot more pattern that I have ever worn. Will keep a look out for the duvet cover.
Holy crap. As someone who got a degree in Apparel Management, I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE that you copy that blog into an email to the store manager and J. Crew corporate. That is a BIG no-no in retail world. No matter where you are.
Good help really is hard to find, unfortunately. Just sounds like some dumbass kids with summer jobs... that's so annoying. Come to my crew honey, it's all gay men in their 40's and they're sweet as pie! :-)
I agree with Lisa... I would definitely send something to corporate customer service. And had I been in your shoes, I would've called the store and asked to speak to the manager so he/she knew about the service as well.
That is so annoying. And I've also noticed that sale items don't always ring up on sale there either. I've had to turn around and go back to get it corrected and, in such an "upscale" store (most definitely to employees), they barely can get an apology out when it happens! But I love their clothes for minis and me!
I had a similar experience at a Crew here in ATL. I ran in on my lunch hour and not a single soul to help me in the dressing room, while people next to me are getting the golden treatment. When I came out (looking for another size) someone asked (but didn't really care) if I was finding everything OK and I said something about getting no help in the dressing room and honest to gosh she screwed up her face as if I had just spit in it, turned and walked away. I asked for the manager but she was not working (hello????) and so I said something about wasting my time and I laid down all my would-be purchases on a chair and walked out. I loved Pearls' response at Saks...hee-hee.
That's funny--I am usually also midly irritated at JCrew but for the opposite reason! I prefer to browse alone for a little while before seeking help and I always find that 4 or 5 staffers ask if they can help me. I live in the Northeast though. We're a pretty demanding group!!LOL.
