OK so I ran a few errands this evening and popped into Target. Not the same Target I was at yesterday, but whatever. I went to the service desk and explained how I accidentally stole the case of Diet Coke yesterday. Do you remember that episode of
Friends when Phoebe's bank kept putting more money in her account and then sent her a football phone when she tried to explain that she owed them money and not the other way around (awesome run on sentence BTW!!)? That was me today. I explained to the woman very clearly what happened. She offered for me to just go get another case. I re-explained that I am not owed a case, rather I owe the store money. She finally said that because I didn't shop at this particular store, they could not help me. Then she said, "I just wouldn't worry about it really." Um, OK. I thought I was being the better person here and trying. But it turns out, Target is not all that worried about me and my $3 worth of stolen soda pop. At least I tried....right?

That happened to me once at tjmaxx. I put two RL pillowcase sets on the counter and she only charged me for one. I tried to go back and explain it to them and they thought I was from Mars. After forever of me trying to buy something the right way I had to give up and walk away. I swear they thought I was trying to pull a scam. Dude ... I was being honest!!!
I've done that before! They don't seem to care. Weird.
I always love a Friends reference! I always feel like its good karma when they forget to ring something up.
I remember doing that at Toys R Us with 3 little kids in the cart - realized it when the kids were in the carseats...for a $3 rattle...C was about 5 and said "mommy you didn't pay for this..." I just told her it was free cause we bought so much, because the thought of taking a 5,3 and 1 year old back in there and dealing with that was insane...kuddos to you for being and honest croc...
Hmmm... after reading through your ordeal at the check out - I'm pretty sure you're owed the free soda for putting up with all that nonsense and not giving the cashier attitude about waiting.
I've never accidentally stolen something... but I did recently contemplate intentionally ringing up my overpriced cherries as reasonably priced grapes in the U-Scan lane.
Good for you for being the honest person and going to all that trouble!!! You will sleep better at night. Although I feel like Target should be more appreciative.

That's so funny. Something similar happened to me one. After shopping & paying I proceeded to the exit. As I went through the the alarms sounded. I stopped looked around, no employee was coming towards me. So I looked for the security person who is usually close to the doors and went up to him. I told him the alarm when off & showed him my bag. He looked at me funny and said, "don't worry about it". Apparently if I was to steal from a particular store, Target would be my first choice.
